1. Review, Pivot, and Sharpen
Itβs with nostalgia that I am writing this in Dec 2022. As the year comes to an end, itβs time to review the past. TheBabylonians started exactly 4 years ago in Dec 2018 as a personal finance blog while I was still an undergraduate.
The original direction was to journal my personal investment journey toward financial freedom and build brand visibility. Like any other young, hungry, and ambitious undergrad, I tried to absorb as much knowledge as I could, eager to prove my mark in society upon graduation.
My blog started off with REITs, and equities next, then trading strategies subsequently, and psychology, programming, personal finance, crypto, and so on. The website became a bloat of sub-topics with no apparent niche. Each new interest broadens my skillsets as a generalist but dilutes the core value of my passion, crypto.
Life takes a bit of poking around, agile experimentation, and dipping your toes in the water before you figure out your Ikigai. After 4 years of βf**k around,β I have a better grasp of mine.
βIf you havenβt found it yet, keep looking. Donβt Settle.β - Steve Jobs
Though I am still a proponent of a generalist and believe that oneβs unique edge comes from an amalgamation of different disciplinary thinking, a strong brand positioning ultimately comes from deep-seated specialized knowledge.
The first iteration of Babylonians has brought me to where I want to be today, but progress has since plateaued. To realign my Ikigai and refine the brandβs vision toward a crypto research hub, it needed to pivot to a new platform, a new space & environment that could better express itself more eloquently.
I have been yearning to write my thoughts on crypto for what felt like ages but decided to hold it off until today. Moving forward into 2023 with a renewed purpose, I have decided to sunset the original Babylonians website with a heavy heart and migrate all future writings to the Substack platform. Its last day will be on the 22nd Jan 2023, but some old posts have been imported onto Substack.
This post is dedicated to those who have followed TheBabylonians since the early days. Thanks for all the support if you are still reading this and I sincerely hope you guys will follow through to TheBabylonianβs next phase if crypto is your thing. For those who are new, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to the community.
2. New Beginnings
The new Substack would be a newsletter laser-focused on crypto topics as thatβs what I do all day, personally and professionally. Occasionally maybe some thoughts about money.
On a daily basis, I would be consuming all the news & updates from my sources, top-tier research house, and Twitter threads from key influencers (KOLs).
Insights will be summarized into byte-size content in this newsletter so that you can keep up to date with all the latest crypto developments at your fingertip in < 10 minutes.
In-depth deep-dive reports on a particular project or ecosystem
Daily/weekly alphas, trends, or news
Actionable insights on potential yield opportunities or market strategies
Tutorials on toolings & dashboards for beginners
3. Is 2023 a Good Time to Look into Crypto?
Finally, for those who have been asking if crypto is still investable after all the horrors in the media, the short answer is yes in my personal opinion. Technology is always optimistic, it will only advance and progress forward not backward. But it wonβt be easy under the current harsh environment and regulatory scrutiny.
Nevertheless, the great reset in 2022 is actually a bullish de-leveraging flush that is painful in the short term but healthy in the long term. It is not a new phenomenon unique to crypto as we have seen familiar patterns in TradFi too.
That is how every industry matures and develops resilience over time, it is through the multiple iterations of trials-and-errors, and boom-and-bust cycles in the course of its history.
After more than 12 months of bearishness, I believe the impact of the contagion is starting to ease, and 2023 will be a slow recovery phase for the crypto industry. If you have been touching grass for the past year, 2023 is a good time to get back in the markets and start paying a little more attention to the crypto ecosystem.
Fortunes are made in the abyss of bear markets. Watch for the accumulation phase.
